Land of honey
2014-09-16

When mountain meadows bloom with multi-coloured flowers in spring and summer, when a scent of blossoming limes wafts in the air and buzzing music resounds everywhere – thousands of bees work hard to collect pollen and nectar. Anyone who enjoys delicious sweet honey should listen to this sound, as it is the key to experience real honey delight!

Areas surrounding Gorlice and Nowy Sącz are widely known as honey production centres. Almost every village houses smaller or larger apiaries, bee enthusiasts with at least a few hives can be found everywhere. There are also large beekeeping farms, known throughout the country. “Sądecki Bartnik” in Stróże, near Grybów is one of them. The next one is the “Barć” apiary in Kamianna, near Krynica-Zdrój. Visiting them is of great value for honey gourmets. Their offer includes different varieties of honey or products made of beeswax, whose properties are unusual – it can be used to prepare medicinal products, make candles, but also create true masterpieces of sculptural art. This is not the end yet. Both Stróże and Kamianna offer unusual open-air museums. They include wooden houses, designed not for people, but for bees. These are often fancy-shaped hives or just the simplest ones made of a basket or a hollow tree trunk. You can also explore interesting displays devoted to beekeeping and bee life or take part in workshops, learning the ins and outs of beekeeping. Once you get hungry, visit regional inns where you can enjoy various specialties prepared – of course – of different varieties of honey.

Regional honey production is not only Kamianna or Stróże. This product can be bought in many other places with apiaries, which offer also beekeeping workshops and accommodation. It is best to choose one of agritourism farms with apiaries from the offer of “The Małopolska Land of Honey”.
