Pleasure your senses
2014-08-11

The Sensory gardens in Muszyna are continuously changing. Those who have already visited this unusual place might not recognise it next time they see it. It has just been enriched with some new features. Although the gardens exist for two years, they keep transforming, and surprising its visitors with each subsequent visit. Let's check it out - summer is the ideal time for a stroll in the garden.

Why do we need sensory gardens? In order to enhance our experience of nature and employ all of our senses. Its therapeutic and educational property is especially important to the blind and those with psychophysical disorders. Muszyna's parks are designed in such a way that they intensely influence non-visual senses. The gardens are divided into several zones, all of which are accessible to the disabled.

We start in the health garden with gym equipment. We exercise surrounded by roses, thujas, spruces, maples and hornbeams. Next is the garden of smells, where plants are selected in such a way that their smell reaches our sense with more intensity. If we close our eyes, we would think that the place smells like a herbarium. Guessing which plant belongs to a specific smells is both educational and fun. Next we have the garden of sound, where you can listen to the rustle of leaves, the chirping of birds, murmur of water in a stream or crunch of gravel under your feet. The two last zones are the fragrant and tactile garden, followed by the taste garden, full of fruit trees and shrubs.

"It's not all", says Mayor Jan Golba. "In a few years, not only the sensory gardens, but the whole town of Muszyna will be changed beyond recognition.
