No time for boredom – the most interesting events in the region
2014-09-16

The region of Gorlice and Nowy Sącz attracts tourists and vacationers with its various attractions and values. These are also highly interesting cultural events attended every year by thousands of visitors seeking aesthetic sensations of high culture, as well as joyful traditional folk events.

During a year, you can participate in a variety of smaller and larger events. Some of them are widely known not only in the region, but also much further, even beyond the Polish borders. These include the Jan Kiepura European Opera Festival in Krynica-Zdrój. On August evenings, from the promenade in Krynica, you can hear opera and operetta arias sung by Polish and foreign artists. We can also enjoy refined music in Stary Sącz, where the Stary Sącz Early Music Festival is held in July. It draws on centuries-old musical traditions, associated with the Order of the Poor Clares, in which old music manuscripts were discovered.

Festivals in Łącko associated with local horticultural traditions are quite different. They include: the Festival of Blossoming Apple Trees and the Fruit Harvest Festival held in May and September, respectively. At the time, an amphitheater in Łącko proves the richness of the regional folklore. The Orchard Blossom Festival in Łososina Dolna, during which crowds gather on the vast airport field of the Podhale Aeroclub to participate in this folk event, is of similar nature. The annual “Biesiada u Bartnika” feast in Stróże, held at the well-known “Sądecki Bartnik” beekeeping farm, is associated with local delicacies, this time produced by bees and beekeepers.

The Lemko Culture Festival, held each year in July under the name of “Lemko Vatra”, gathers thousands of Lemkos from around the world and other visitors on special areas in a mountain valley near the village of Zdynia in Beskid Niski. It is an important event during which you can experience the vitality of traditional Lemko culture. Those interested in history should necessarily take part in the Historical Picnic in Sękowa held in May.

The annual concert series, entitled “Music Enchanted by Wood”, is an extraordinary event and an opportunity to listen to music in enchanting scenery. Then, the Orthodox churches of the Beskid Mountains and the wooden churches of the region become atmospheric concert halls.

These are only events selected from an extremely wide offer of towns and villages of the region – almost every month of the year offers you something interesting!
